Trappings of Domesticity uses a combination of still lifes and portraits to convey a sense of longing for the former self, the self that for most women tends to get lost after becoming a wife or mother. The very title of the series, Trappings of Domesticity, is a play on words, at once referring to the plethora of Things that we wish to attain in an effort to portray the ideal domestic life, but that ultimately trap us in a world of overconsumption, always striving to have more, to be more. The images speak to a suppression of desires and the ability to truly be oneself while consumed by the stuff of daily life.
